Mr. John Ciccarelli


John Ciccarelli is a consulting planner, designer, safety evaluator and educator specializing in bicycle, pedestrian, and "micro-mobility" modes for over 20 years. He has participated in the development of bicycle and active transportation plans for cities, counties and special facilities, corridor / intersection / interchange designs, and safety assessments for cities and for campuses such as Facebook's Menlo Park (MPK) complex and NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab.

John has developed and presented courses for agencies including UC Berkeley Tech Transfer, UC Davis Extension, Caltrans, L.A. County Metro and L.A.D.O.T.  He is the developer and presenter of the webinar Bikeway Design Principles, Planning and Best Practices offered by Lorman Education Services.  He presents on-site bike commuting/safety workshops independently and through, San Mateo County's transportation options resource.

John is a bicycle parking and storage expert and a designer of high-density bicycle storage facilities. He is a principal co-author of the APBP's Bicycle Parking Guidelines, 1st and 2nd Editions.

Prior to launching Bicycle Solutions in 1999, John served as Stanford University's first Bicycle Program Coordinator, implementing a comprehensive program serving thousands of commuter and on-campus bicyclists, and adding or upgrading 3,000 bike rack spaces and 500 in-building secure bike storage spaces.

John is a certified League Cycling Instructor (LCI), and an engaging presenter.  He leads Learn To Ride, handling skills, and "bicycle driver education" classes for adults and teens, and offers private lessons (personal coaching) for all ages and abilities.  John has personally taught over 2,000 persons -- ages 4 to 74 -- how to balance and pedal for the first time.  Bicycle Solutions operates a multi-instructor private coaching service in the San Francisco Bay Area.
